PGY2 Residents: Rotations

The PGY2 will spend a concentrated year at the UF Health Rehabilitation Hospital at Select in the inpatient rehabilitation experience. The UF Health Rehabilitation Hospital, Select, is a 60 bed free-standing hospital that provides care for adult patients who were treated as inpatients at UF Health at Shands. The PGY2 will spend the whole year (12 months) gaining experience in this environment. The residents will work closely with attending faculty on the inpatient rehabilitation service. Educational impact will be significant, as residents will have intensive exposure to complex post acute admissions which include stroke, spinal cord injury, heart failure, traumatic brain injury, amputations and orthopaedic trauma/polytrauma, neuropathy, myopathy and debility. Residents will be key contributors to the admission process and the daily management of a diverse group of patients. They will learn to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation program working in a team with therapists (physical, occupational, speech-language), psychology and rehabilitation nursing.

Trainees will learn during the PGY2 year, how to function effectively as part of a coordinated team, how to take medical histories, perform a Physiatric exam, order appropriate diagnostic tests and labs, and how to interpret the results. They will be educated on utilizing history and physical data to appropriately establish goals and outcomes for each patient.
